3d modeled desk3D Modeled Custom Desk

This is a desk I am currently in the process of designing.  I am trying to create something to hold all of my computer equipment.  Standard desks just aren't designed to handle 4 screens, an over sized computer tower, and a drawing tablet.  I have created the model and room to scale to test various designs and also be able to get a sense of space that it is hard to get just doing sketches.  One decision this will help me make, is whether or not to tear out the closet door frame for that extra foot of space.

3D Modeling, Texturing, and Rendering

The image shown is the direct product of a 3D Studio Max rendering.  Nothing was photoshopped in the picture.  I tried to simulate the amount of light and shadow that I would have with the current lighting situation as well.  the woodwork and walls have been textured appropriately, but I made the floor shiny for a little nicer look.  Using a scale model really helps you be able to plan out every possible detail and forsee any issues that might come up.  Like, oh, is that going to fit through the door?  This is really just a personal project but I felt like it was a good one to demonstrate some of these points.  And who knows, maybe someday you will be able to see the finished product while we are planning out your next 3D model.

The New Design

The desk shown is the latest and greatest version of my desk.  This version has to work because I already started tearing out the closet to make it fit!  I was also able to generate a 3D fly-around video of the model.  To watch it, use the link below. After doing the original 3D model rendering, I realized that the desk was just going to be to cramped, dark, and uncomfortable.  Since I already have an uncomfortable desk solution, I thought it best to go back to the drawing board, or in this case, computer screen.  I think the new design was worth the extra effort, and prevented me from getting stuck with a bad desk.  Check it out here for yourself!
